Trying the conch salad at Out Da Sea Bar & Grill

For an authentic local experience, this unique restaurant (which started as a car wash, yes, a car wash) first added a fish market, where local patrons could purchase fresh fish. It then evolved into a restaurant with different outposts featuring chefs creating their own spin on dishes such as BBQ and conch salad.

At the main restaurant you can order other traditional Bahamian menu items such as fresh local lobster and even select your own fresh fish at the market (uh, next to the car wash) and have the chef prepare it to order. Be sure to try the specialty cocktails prepared by their mixologist Kevin, such as a Guava Duff, Cloud 9 (it will only take one with the lethal combination of Blue Curaçao, mango rum, peach Schnapps, and vodka, blended with simple syrup and ice), and his special blend of Sangria made with Merlot.

Nighttime shark feeding

Known as the “Shark Feeding Restaurant,” grab a seat outdoors to have a view of the ocean and watch the frenzy of the sharks when its feeding time. With a menu focused heavily on local fish (like snapper), lobster, crab, and conch, most dishes are prepared Caribbean style. They also have a large sushi menu and be sure to try another favorite Bahamian cocktail, the Rum Runner.

Guava Duff

Many chefs and mixologists will tell you to add ingredients “to taste” and that’s what Kevin of Out Da Sea Bar & Grill has said to do with this recipe for a Guava Duff. What started out as a pastry style dessert has been turned into a sweet, but very tasty frozen concoction. Kevin says to add the ingredients to your own taste preference and desired level of potency. He prepares them individually for his customers at Out Da Sea.

Ingredients:

  • 2 canned guava shells
  • 1 to 2 ounces sweetened condensed milk
  • Bailey’s Irish Cream, to taste
  • Apricot Brandy, to taste
  • Ice

Directions:

  1. Combine ingredients together in a blender until smooth. Serve immediately.
