Kleifarvatn is the largest lake on the Reykjanes P Kleifarvatn is the largest lake on the Reykjanes Peninsula in Iceland. Fed only by porous lava rock, it’s also one of Iceland’s deepest lakes with depths up to 318 feet.

The landscape is otherworldly covered in lava and moss - and sits between the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates. The area is known for its geothermal and geological activity, and has active volcanoes 🌋running along the length of the region.

According to local folklore, a monster similar to the Loch Ness Monster lives in the lake. If you dare, you can even take a scuba dive tour to explore the underwater world beneath the water’s surface. @celebritycruises @arctic_exposure @inspiredbyiceland #cruise #travel #iceland #icelandtrip #volcano #lake

Celebrity Apex in Akureyri, Iceland. This is our f Celebrity Apex in Akureyri, Iceland. This is our first port of call after sailing 2 1/2 days on the North Sea, the Norwegian Sea and the North Atlantic heading northwest from Amsterdam.

Nicknamed the “Capital of the North,” Akureyri was first mentioned in 1562, but inhabitants arrived about 1,100 years ago.

In 1772 the village became a certified trading post under the Danish king - and with only 12 inhabitants. That status was revoked in 1836 and not regained again until 1862.

Today the town is the second largest city in Iceland with a population of approximately 20,000 people. It’s also home to some of the largest fishing and fish processing centers in Iceland. @celebritycruises #travel #cruise #iceland #akureyri #history #celebritycruises #celebrityapex

Ketchikan, Alaska. As the sign says, Ketchikan is Ketchikan, Alaska. As the sign says, Ketchikan is known as Alaska’s “first city” since the town sits at the southern tip of the Inside Passage.

Ketchikan also calls itself the “Salmon Capital of the World” because so many anglers come to the town during salmon season - and to fish for Pacific halibut, red snapper and other species of 🐟

The Alaskan town is a beautiful - and rainy destination - with an average rainfall of 162 inches of “liquid sunshine” ☀️ each year. @norwegiancruiseline @travelalaska @visitketchikan #travel #cruise #alaska #ketchikan #salmon #insidepassage
Scenes from Skagway, Alaska - one of our stops on Scenes from Skagway, Alaska - one of our stops on the first Alaskan cruise of the season on @norwegiancruiseline’s Norwegian Bliss.

Originally inhabited by the Tlingit, their name for the town, skagua, means “place where the north wind blows.” We didn’t have the strong winds (thankfully), and we even had sun later in the day, making for a beautiful afternoon to explore the historic town.

We also took a ride on the famous White Pass & Yukon Route, Alaska’s first railway. It was built in 1898 during the Klondike Gold Rush, and is known as “The Scenic Railway of the World.“ 🚃

Skagway also had some interesting characters in its heyday (as we learned at the Goldrush Cemetery) as the town was the gateway to the Yukon and Klondike goldfields. @travelalaska #travel #cruise #skagway #alaska #cruisenorwegian #norwegianbliss #history #goldrush
