The Best Game of Thrones Tour – Belfast, Northern Ireland
Bushmills Distillery and Other Attractions Along the Way
Between filming locations, be sure to visit Bushmills Distillery on the way to Giant’s Causeway. Bushmills has been producing whiskey since 1784. Their tasting room is the most popular part of the tour, and with good reason. Once again, if you have the insider knowledge with a well-connected guide (as we did), we skipped the tour and headed straight to the tasting room where we were served a few of the special whiskeys reserved for those who really know their whiskey, and we certainly know our whiskey.

When in Northern Ireland, we drink Bushmills

Giant’s Causeway
Giant’s Causeway is just a few miles from the town of Bushmills. At the Causeway you’ll see a natural wonder that baffled scientists until recently. More than 40,000 hexagonal columns are interlocked and appear to form a bridge into the sea. Folklore had it that the columns were placed by giants, hence the name. However, the hexagonal columns were formed 50-60 million years ago from volcanic activity and these columns formed due to uniform cooling.
Traveling back to Belfast we had the opportunity to enjoy the farms, pastures, and rocky hillsides along the way. Once again, many scenes take place in these locations, but the sheer beauty of the land with more shades of green than Crayola and the billowy white clouds set in the brilliant blue sky layered over the countryside, is sure to fill your senses.
While this was a Game of Thrones tour, it was also a tour of the Northern Ireland countryside and its small towns. You can certainly drive this route without a guide, but if you have any interest in the hit TV series, or you would like more inside knowledge of the towns and attractions of Northern Ireland, be sure to book a date with Gerard at Gameofthronestours.tv. His knowledge, insight, and personal attention to every detail made our tour most memorable.
In addition to Northern Ireland, The Game of Thrones series is filmed in Spain, Morocco, Malta, Scotland, Iceland, and Croatia.

I was in Northern Ireland a little while back too. Unfortunately, I didn’t do the GoT tour but did see a couple of places. It was very grey and wet when I was there so the pictures aren’t as nice as yours. Loved the people and the food there. Must go back again.
It has been widespread that most of the filming location of GOT is in Northern Ireland and I would want to visit any filming location especially GOT. Judging from your post it is indeed a very beautiful place I will surely love it even if it isn’t a GOT location. And I do agree that a great tour also depends upon the tour guide it has to be someone who has great knowledge on the place and in this case the GOT locations. I plan to visit with friends soon.
