Cruising the Southern Caribbean on the Silver Whisper – Silversea Cruises
Of course, evenings on board the ship and days at sea are some of the most enjoyable and memorable moments of cruising. A trip to the spa, a surprise bath drawn by the cabin’s butler, a talk by a guest lecturer as part of their Enrichment Series, and cocktails in the lounge before dinner with new friends are just some of the activities we enjoyed on board the ship. The nightly entertainment in the theater was performed by a small group of very talented singers and dancers, the Voices of Silversea. We found ourselves returning every evening after dinner to watch their performances ranging from classic show tunes, popular operas, to a lively and unexpected history of rock and roll. And then of course, there is the on board dining experience.
Dining is one of the areas where Silversea really excels. The ship’s executive chef, French trained Jerome Foussier, does an excellent job overseeing all of the on board venues and special events.
There are four dining options on the Silver Whisper. Breakfast and lunch are offered inside or on the back deck at La Terrazza overlooking the ocean or one of the ports when the ship is docked. In the evenings, it becomes a more elegant dining restaurant focusing on the lines’ Italian roots and heritage; using sustainable ingredients, it is the only Slow Food restaurant at sea. Some of the featured dishes are homemade pastas and Mediterranean-style fish dishes such Filetto di Branzino con Rucola e Pomodorini (Grilled Fillet of Sea Bass with Arugula and Cherry Tomatoes).
For a more casual dining option, guests can choose lighter fare for lunch or a unique dinner concept at the Pool Bar and Grill. As the sun begins to set, this outdoor deck is transformed into The Grill, which offers an interactive Black Rock Grill dining experience where guests can cook their own steaks or seafood at their table on volcanic rock. Al fresco dining at The Grill is a wonderful way to enjoy a beautiful Caribbean evening while preparing your own Filet Mignon or Grilled Madagascar Prawns while sipping a glass of wine.
The Restaurant, yes, that’s its name, is the main dining room of the Silver Whisper, serving contemporary international cuisine, with a menu that changes nightly and is inspired by the destinations and ports of call during the cruise.
The most impressive restaurant on board is Le Champagne. The only Relais & Chateaux restaurant at sea, this intimate and special dining experience features a six-course tasting menu. For a true gourmand, this is not to be missed. Beautiful platings, outstanding wines, and attentive service complete the evening while dining on specialties such as Maine Lobster Salad with Mango Salsa, Caviar, and Lobster Mayonnaise and table-side prepared Dover Sole with Camembert Bouillon.
