On The Road culinary adventures travels to Louisville, KY with Southern Heat! October 11-13, 2015

Here’s the itinerary:

October 11th 

Evening – A welcome reception and four-course dinner with wine pairings at Chef Edward Lee’s MilkWood with Executive Chef Kevin Ashworth – downtown Louisville.  Ed is a four-time James Beard Award finalist, owner of MilkWood and 610 Magnolia, host of the show Mind of a Chef on PBS, winner of Iron Chef, a finalist on Top Chef, and author of Smoke & Pickles.  The dinner will feature Ed’s signature flavors combining his Korean heritage with local and Southern ingredients.  Chef Ashworth has an incredible evening planned for our guests and there will be a surprise gift to take home that evening from the dinner.

October 12th 

Morning – We begin our day with a tour of Brown-Forman’s Cooperage and then we’ll travel by private coach to Woodford Reserve for a tour of the distillery. Woodford Reserve is one of the most beautiful and historic distilleries in Kentucky with a very intriguing backstory.  Lunch will follow with bourbon cocktails and a taste of flavors from around the world with a three-course luncheon prepared by two-time James Beard Award nominee Chef Ouita Michels.  Ouita will host an interactive cooking demonstration where we’ll learn about cooking with bourbon using the bourbon Flavor Wheel.

Afternoon – We’ll be driven back to Louisville by private coach.

Evening –  A very special pre-release reception and dinner for Southern Heat with award-winning chef and television personality (Extreme Chef, Bar Rescue, Beat Bobby Flay, Moveable Fest with Fine Cooking) Chef Anthony Lamas, at Seviche, A Latin Restaurant.  We’ll also have a few special surprise guests join our group for dinner.  Anthony has been named one of the best Latin chefs in the country and Seviche is consistently ranked as one of the best restaurants in Louisville.  This will be an evening to remember.

October 13th

Late morning – Brunch at Royals Hot Chicken, in the NuLu district of downtown Louisville.  Royals Hot Chicken, the new concept from Feast BBQ owner and 2015 EATER Young Gun, chef Ryan Rogers, is opening this fall and we will be one of their first guests.  A menu designed just for us featuring hot chicken, pimento cheese grits, and local country ham; plus a little hair of the dog – will be exactly what we need to cure what ails us from the celebration the night before.

We have special rates reserved at The Brown Hotel for our group.  $149.00 plus tax for a deluxe guest room and $179.00 plus tax for the club level rooms.

The cost of the tour with meals (see above), beverages (alcoholic as well as non-alcoholic), wine, transportation, tours of the cooperage and Woodford Reserve, taxes, tips, and gratuities, and a signed copy of Southern Heat is $795.00 per person.  Seating is limited for this special event.
