Kiawah Island Golf Resort – Kiawah Island, South Carolina
Chef Robert Wysong and the culinary team of Kiawah Island are committed to preserving this island’s natural environment and work hard to support local farmers, fisherman and agriculture and have been doing so for decades. Their focus on coexisting with the environment is what local and sustainable is all about.
The Kiawah Island Golf Resort has twelve dining options. Some are very casual while others offer a more elegant dining experience. The Ocean Room at The Sanctuary has earned both the Forbes Four Star and AAA Four Diamond ratings and is the only steakhouse in the U.S. with that recognition. Jasmine Porch (also at The Sanctuary), features Lowcountry inspired cuisine and has been named “Best Down Home Cookery” by Andrew Harper’s Hideaway Report.
For those guests requiring a little extra pampering, The Spa at The Sanctuary was named one of the best hotel spas in the U.S. by Travel + Leisure. The theme of nature is present in this beautiful spa with its ocean, forest and botanical garden treatments.
There are numerous activities for individuals or families seeking outdoor adventure. Biking trails meander through every part of the island. Ocean kayaking, canoeing, fishing and naturalist walks abound. For tennis enthusiasts, Kiawah Resort was named the #1 Tennis Resort in the World. If you want to take a break, perhaps you would enjoy the sounds of the surf while relaxing on the beach.
And then there is golf. We must not forget the golf. 🙂
Kiawah Island is known for its five beautiful golf courses, including the magnificent Ocean Course. Host to the 2007 Senior PGA Championship, the Ocean Course will also host this year’s (2012) PGA Championship in August.
The Atlantic Room, located at The Ocean Course, is known for its seafood specialties, with most of the fish locally caught. The restaurant overlooks an expansive lawn bordering the beach and the Atlantic Ocean. Sitting on the Adirondack chairs on the lawn, you are reminded of a scene from The Great Gatsby. Not to be missed is a sunset from this vantage point. It was truly spectacular.
The level of service and attention to detail at Kiawah Island is what makes this resort truly exceptional. There is not an opportunity missed to make your experience memorable. Almost every need is anticipated by their well-trained staff. Our stay felt more like we were visiting a private estate rather than a hotel.
Although it had been ten years since we last visited Kiawah, the beauty and magic were brought back the moment we arrived on the island. When it was time to leave after our recent stay, there was a real sense of melancholy. I look forward to those magical moments that await our return.
* If you are interested in vacationing at Kiawah Island, the resort offers many options for rental properties in addition to the accommodations at The Sanctuary.
Disclosure – Kiawah Island Golf Resort provided a media package for our visit. I was not asked to write any articles about my stay and have in no way been compensated. The opinions expressed regarding our experience are my own.
What a spectacular place! The beach is calling my name, and that looks like the perfect place to spend a lovely holiday.
Hi Susan,
Kiawah is a perfect place to spend a vacation. It offers so many activities in addition to being able to just relax and enjoy the beach. If you decide to plan a visit, I would be happy to answer any questions you have about dining, etc.

Thought for sure there would be a photo of Mr. B with his driver, but love the photo of you and the chef strolling down the beach together. Pretty place!
Hi Denise,
There was no time for golf on this trip. Guess we will have to go back so Mr. B can play a round on the Ocean Course. 😉
Gwen
Looks like a very beautiful place and love the photos.
Hi Stacey,
Thank you and yes, Kiawah is a beautiful island.
Gwen
I LOVE KIAWAH ISLAND! My family and I are visiting in late June and early July. It is one of the most beautiful vacation areas I have ever been to.
Hi Meredith,
I agree. Kiawah is one our favorite places we have traveled to. Enjoy your vacation!
Gwen
I’ve only been to Kiawah Island once but I’ll never forget it.
I grew up in Maine and have wanted to be near the water ever since. We live 5 minutes from the beach and I love it. Best decision we ever made.
Beautiful post.
Hi Maureen,
You are fortunate to be able to live so close to the water. It is definitely something we hope to do some day. I am always reminded how much I miss being close to the ocean when we travel to places like Kiawah.
Gwen
I went to college near Phillie at Lehigh University and spent many a weekend hanging out at the Jersey shore relaxing with friends. I grew up on the coast of Maine and spent my childhood summers on Cape Cod, so I know exactly what you mean about the ocean. It’s such a calming place for me and someplace I return to again and again.
Hi Jen,
I always thought it was interesting that everyone in Philly and New Jersey called the beach “the shore”. You can always tell where someone is from when they say that. 🙂
Parts of Cape Cod are very pretty, too. I lived in Boston for 5 1/2 years, so I enjoyed visiting Cape Cod, in particular, Provincetown, and the coastal area of Maine. Love those lobstas!

Kiawah Island. is GORGEOUS! What a beautiful resort too. It’s now on my bucket list. The photos are just breathtaking! Love the first photo, it’s like a magazine shot for a movie called ‘Reconnecting with The Chef – My First Love’ l)
Lisa,
LOL! That is a great title. You never know…
If you make it to Kiawah, I will meet you there!
Gwen
Thanks for the pictures. I love Kiawah. It is TRULY a beautiful spot.
