What to Do and Where to Dine and Stay in Belfast, Northern Ireland

Where to Stay

Belfast has a decidedly European feel with an eclectic mix of architecture. Parts of the city and its buildings are reminiscent of Eastern European while the main shopping streets are similar to what you find in London. In addition, many of the side streets offer more of a Dublin feel, so the city has an interesting and unique vibe.

Wanting to stay close and within walking distance to the city center, major shopping areas, restaurants, and many of the attractions, we chose The Fitzwilliam Belfast. Located across the street from the Grand Opera House, this modern luxury hotel blends contemporary appointments with extraordinary service. The rooms have excellent views of the city and the hills just outside of Belfast and the property is one of the two 5-star hotels in town. The hotel is also a short walk from Great Victoria Street railway station, one of the two major train stations in the city.

Its relaxed atmosphere and contemporary décor are a welcome respite to return to after a long day sightseeing and shopping. Have a seat in the lobby by the fireplace or a drink in the lively bar and keep a lookout for some familiar faces. You’ll often see burly men with beards, women with long hair, and some you are sure to recognize as the actors and directors from Game of Thrones.

If you’re traveling with a group of friends or are hosting a business meeting, plan a unique event for your group and book one of the Murder Mystery Packages the hotel offers. Channel your inner actor or actress and play a part in the mystery to solve a murder on board Titanic, be part of a James Bond-themed disappearance, or reenact an episode from the series, Murder She Wrote.
