Things To Do in Coastal Maine and Inn By The Sea

Other activities

A trip on a lobster boat is a must when in Maine. So is a day of whale watching or a ride on a schooner. And don’t forget waiting in line at the most popular clam shacks in the area for local fried clams and a lobster roll (more details later). As we learned, each shack has a unique method of preparing their dish, so you need to try several to find your personal favorite or you can read our upcoming story on the shacks from Boston to Portland to hear about our experiences so you don’t have to eat your way around two states like we did.

Guests can also go kayaking or canoeing in the Audubon sanctuary for great wildlife watching with a private LL Bean guide (arranged by the property). There are plenty of other outdoor activities for adults and children offered through the Inn featuring eco-education and wildlife seminars. The historic Old Port in nearby Portland has many shops and boutiques, great restaurants, and nightlife. And then there’s the Inn By The Sea Spa for a relaxing specialty treatment at the end of a busy day of sightseeing.

Vacation Plans

Inn By The Sea is a year-round vacation destination. With its warm and inviting atmosphere, yet elegant sophistication, guests visit this beautiful resort property during all four seasons. It’s also an ideal place to have a destination wedding, family reunion, or corporate gathering. While fall and summer are spectacular times to visit coastal Maine, early spring and winter are quieter. Each time of year will offer something totally unique in the scenery, culinary offerings, and activities.

Inn By The Sea is just minutes from Portland and 45 minutes to Kennebunkport. There will always be plenty of things to see and do in and along these coastal communities. And if you’re in the market for adopting a dog (and even if you’re not), consider coming home with a new pooch after your stay. The soulful eyes of these sweet pups will melt your heart and you’ll want to give them a forever home.
